Two questions decide every walk here, and neither of them is the view
In this part of Texas a route is only as good as its shade and its water. Everything else is preference. This journal walks ground with a dog and writes down those two things first, then the surface, then the hours when going out is sensible at all.
The index above is the whole issue. Five routes, each walked in full, each with the distance measured rather than guessed, and each closing with a box that says what to know before setting out.
What a route record is
A description of ground, on a named day, at a named temperature, walked at the pace of an animal who stops. It says where the shade falls and at what hour, where water can be reached, what the surface does to a paw, and what the sign at the trailhead actually says about leads.
It is not a list of the prettiest places. Pretty is easy to find and useless at three in the afternoon in July.
What this journal is not, said plainly
This matters enough to sit on the front page rather than in the small print.
- Nothing here moves an animal anywhere. Not by air, not by road, not by handing the job to somebody else. It is not offered, not brokered and not for sale, on any page.
- No veterinary opinion of any kind. Not on fitness, not on heat, not on paperwork, not on anything. Those questions belong to the person who treats your animal, and this journal is not qualified to have a view.
- Nothing on this site is for sale. No shop, no booking, no price on any page.
- No products, no brands and no recommendations to buy anything.
What is left is the useful part: which ground works, when, and why.

Two places, two dates, and the form does the rest on a subdomain of this site, where a booking host takes over. Seats for people is the whole of what it handles, and on a site with this address that sentence has to be said out loud.
The look up hands your trip to a booking host, and that is where seats, fares and any payment belong. A booking made after using it can pay this journal a commission, which changes nothing about the fare in front of you. It searches flights for people. It arranges nothing for an animal, and no page here does either.

The desk opens Sunday to Thursday between 8:00 am and 2:00 pm, Central Time. Post that arrives on Friday or Saturday waits for Sunday morning, and every letter is answered.
